It's hard not to think of Macallan when shopping for Scotch, after all the company does date back to the 1824. So what has kept the company around for nearly 200 years? A superb product that is crafted with the utmost respect and meticulous love and devotion to their craft.
With over 70 different products in their collection, it's hard to pick a favorite, but among the leaders is the Macallan 15yr Old Double Cask Single Malt Scotch Whiskey.
Made using low nitrogen barley, which is high is starch results in a rich and oily whisky that is slick on the palate. Once harvested, the barley is mashed and malted for several hours before it is fermented with a special yeast. After it's fermented, the spirit is then distilled twice through copper-pot stills. What's left? Approximately 16% of the mash or the heart is collected and mature in sherry-seasoned American & European oak casks for 15 years. The final result? A full-bodied rich whisky that is full of sweet oak filled flavors.
