The Wagner Family might as well be wine royalty, known for producing some of the finest California Wines, Joe Wagner along with John Lopez carry on the tradition with the Beran Collection.
A fifth generation Napa Valley winemaker, Joe Wagner, began work for his Father at Caymus Vineyard's when he was 19. It was there he gained the hands on experience and knowledge that the Wagner Family has become so famous for.
Although John Lopez doesn't come from the same wine dynasty as Joe, he brings his own perspective to the table that shouldn't be overlooked. Lopez's Father worked with the Wagner family at the Caymus Vineyards. It was there that Lopez was introduced to winemaking. Although the seeds for this passion wouldn't bloom until the later part of his career, he ultimately joined the Wagner family business and quickly became assistant winemaker for Belle Glos and working closely with Joseph Wagner. There the two discovered their love for Zinfandel and thus Beran was born.
Beran wines focus on one varietal, Zinfandel, party because it is grossly under represented and partly because of its bold character and the vines ability get better over the decades. Beran Napa Valley Zinfandel is complex and beautifully structured because of how it is handled. Picked at optimal ripeness, then followed by an extended fruit maceration of up to 30 days. The wine rests for 12 months in a combination of American and French oak before bottling.
Comprised mostly of Zinfandel, this wine also contains Petite Sirah and Carignane for balance and structure that yields an additional layer of flavor and complexity.
