The name Drambuie is derived from Scots Gaelic ‘An Dram Buidheach’ and means “The Drink that Satisfies", which we couldn't agree with more--especially if you have a bit of a sweet tooth.
Crafted with well-aged Scotch malt whisky, spices, herbs, and heather honey. Drambuie was originally created for Charles Edward Stuart in the 18th century by the royal apothecary.
The legend goes that after an arduous battle, he gave the elixir to a Scottish clan in gratitude for their hospitality as he awaited safe passage back home. A century later the recipe found its way into the hands of hotelier, John Ross. With the help of his son the duo patented the name and opend Drambuie Liquor Company in 1914.
The recipe has remained a secret for generations and although we don't quite know whats in it we can surmise that it is a blend of aged Scotch whisky, infused with heather honey, aromatic herbs & spices.
Notes: Smooth, medium-bodied. Aromas and flavors of honey, nutmeg, saffron, and anise.
Pairings: Game meats, thick cut bacon, Fig tart
Serving Suggestions: On the rocks or mixed into your favorite cocktail
Region: Scotland
Alcohol Content: 40%
