Originated in the Scottish burgh of Kilmarnock in East Ayrshire, John Walker started as a groceries business who dabbled in Scotch blending. He eventually sold his blend to his customers and quickly developed a fan base that began to make up eight percent of the sales.
It wasn't until 1860 with the legalization of the blending of grain and malt whiskies with the Spirits Act that marked the beginning of the modern blended Scotch whisky and in 1893 they expanded the business by acquiring the Cardhu distillery. Since then, Johnnie Walker has established itself as the most recognizable spirits brand worldwide.
