Opus One was founded in 1984, as a joint venture between Mouton Rothschild and Robert Mondavi (the equivalent of a Biggie and Tupac collaboration). An international success Opus One wines are considered to be among the creme de la creme Bordeaux-style wines.
The duality of both winemakers was and is unified by a singular concept; the pursuit of uncompromising quality. Comprised of four parcels, Opus One vineyards, sit in the western portion of the Napa Valley.
At the helm is winemaker, Michael Silacci who carries on the founders vision by keeping a close eye on all parts of production.
Opus One 2010 Red Blend was colder than normal, which left the grapes less sweet than usual. However, the grape berries developed lovely and complex flavor and aroma components and the unexpectedly high temperatures in late August and September allowed the vines to finish the growing season well.
A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon 84%, Cabernet Franc 5.5%, Merlot 5.5%, Petit Verdot 4%, and Malbec 1% this wine is aged for 18 months in new French oak. The result? A round velvety palate with silky tannins and a touch of minerality.
Notes: Dry, full-bodied. Aromas and flavors of blackberry, rose petals, chocolate and espresso
Pairings: Filet Mignon, grilled portobello, truffle fries
Serving Suggestions: Room temperature
Region: France
Alcohol Content: 13.5%
